Advanced Rocket Mass Heater Workshop with Kirk Mobert

$825

May 10 @ 9:00 am - May 17 @ 2:00 pm Contact

HOST & LOCATION

We will be warmly received by Yosi, Ayelet, Yahara, Kita and Hayden on land in the redwood-forested edge of Santa Cruz, California.  Students can camp on the land or in the Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park a 10-minute drive away.  There is one 3-person tent available and 6-7 more sites.  People will need to be prepared for poison oak/ticks typical in California forests.  Santa Cruz is one of the most beautiful towns in California, centered on the San Lorenzo River, and with endless beaches to explore as well as an active music and art culture to explore.

ADVANCED ROCKET MASS HEATER WORKSHOP

This is CruzinCobGlobal’s first collaboration with another Master Instructor teaching his specialized craft in Earthen Construction!  This is an Advanced Rocket Mass Heater Course. In it we will explore clean combustion from first principles through to building and arranging advanced Rocket Stove and Rocket Mass Heater systems. This is a hands-on class in which students will experience several Rocket Stove types, change their configurations and experience the differences, similarities, advantages and disadvantages of system types first hand. We will experiment on a stove test area and also build a permanent installation that includes cooking, space heating and making hot water in a safe way. Join us while we explore the versatility and comfort of Rocket Mass Heaters.

SCHEDULE & MEALS & ACCOMMODATIONS

Students will arrive on Sunday afternoon, May 10, and we will begin with a delicious vegetarian dinner at 6pm followed by an Orientation to the site and an Introduction to the workshop.  Students will be fed breakfast and lunch each day ending with brunch on Sunday May 17th.  Camping on the land is available, with compost toilets, outdoor showers and a communal kitchen to make dinner in.  Meals will be vegetarian though there may be some non-vegetarian options depending on students’ needs.

TRANSPORT & LOGISTICS

Students without  vehicle can get to Santa Cruz by Greyhound bus or carpool rideshare on Craigslist or with another student.  Out-of-country students can fly into SFO and bus/train from there. More info on carpooling will be offered closer to the date.  There is limited parking at the land so please carpool if possible. We will facilitate that a few weeks before the date.
