Complete Cob at Good Earth Organic Farm and Stables880*
June 29 @ 6:00 pm - July 8 @ 1:00 pm Contact
Another amazing 9 intensive days, we’ll cover in depth all aspects of cob and the many techniques of building with cob including arches, details, shelving, furniture and earthen
floors. In this expanded vision of our most popular program ever, we’ll take the ground from under your feet and turn in into a versatile medium to sculpt a whole house. You will learn construction of walls, installation of doors and windows and we will discuss roofing, foundations, siting, design and artistic details. And you’ll leave confident enough to build a cob cottage of your own! Space is limited to allow personalized hands on instruction.
What we will be building: The project will consist of building a small structure in which you will learn all aspects of building your own home, including mixing cob, doors, and arches. The workshop will include discussions and short lectures but will consist mainly of physical work and hands-on experience. The focus of learning is how to use cob as a building material.
Location and Accommodations: The workshop will be held on Good Earth Organic Farm and Stables which is an organic farm located in Eugene, Oregon. Registration includes all meals and free camping onsite. Wholesome, organic vegetarian food will be provided along with our home brewed kombucha. Other dietary needs will be accommodated as best we can (please ask about this when registering). Please arrive on Friday between 3pm and 5pm. Departure after Lunch and cleanup on Sunday.
About the Farm: Good Earth Organic Farm and Stables is pleased to host this workshop. The 30 acre farm is located within the Eugene city boundaries (right at the edge), but is on a beautiful stretch of the Willamette River. They are lucky to have no development around so the river views and ambience are like it is many miles outside of a town. Good Earth Organic Farm is a certified organic, no-kill farm that employs vegan principals. They strive to work with their natural surroundings and the animals live out their lives in a peaceful, respectful environment.
Workshop participants can either choose to camp in the lower 10 acres which is completely private or sleep in the Bedouin tent that is erected there (it can sleep 20). For those that require a little more comfort, we do have a yurt which sleeps from 2-4 and a farmhouse that sleeps 6-8 available at an additional cost. A private swimming hole and a 100 acre park is right next door that also has river access.
Good Earth Farm is just 8 miles from downtown Eugene and a bus stop is about 1/2 mile away. The area is good for walks or bike rides and many guests float the river upstream and take out at the farm!
