Making adobes is something best done in a group, and a group is happier when there is music. The Malinke people know this better than anybody: kassa in their tradition is a ritual, very energetic, interchange between work and music during harvest time; and kassa also refers to the drum rhythms that are played for this. We are borrowing loosely from their tradition to throw an adobe party! Come help us celebrate, eat and make the building blocks for this year’s building season.
Bring food to share, instruments if you like, and work clothes. Festival is free and open to everyone. It will be held on the North West corner of Telegraph and Ashby, in Berkeley, behind the gas station, and will spill over into a yard that borders the parking lot.
