Taught by Scott Howard. This course will teach you how to use straw and clay to make an insulative and somewhat structural wall infill, as well as how to mis and apply earthen plasters. The straw-clay technique was recently deemed allowable for permitted structures in Portland. We will discuss all the basics of building design, the use of earthen materials in construction, and how to use straw-clay in permitted and non-permitted structures.
