Focusing on Natural Building Finishing…the Fast Cob Way!
May 18, 2023 ∞ 3:30 pm - May 22, 2023 ∞ 11:00 am
An event every day that begins at 3:30 pm, repeating indefinitely
We are continuing our 17 year tradition of hosting Fast Cob Natural Building Workshops…with this Finishing Workshop.
Together, we’ll learn…
- “first layer” of plastering (which nobody else has done and helps make our building technique easier, faster and even less stressful),
- the gorgeous finish layer with two different aggregates (sand and lime),
- how to make and use natural pigment paints (a DIY recipe), and
- make and use lime-wash
- if the energy level holds up, we’ll also pour a small cob floor!
We’ve made finishing not only gorgeous, but very easy. That breakthrough came in the summer of 2021.
Our lime plaster is perfect for areas subjected to water spray (like showers and around sinks). The sand plaster is limit-less in its applications and making.
Our natural paints are completely non-toxic at every stage and as vibrant as any other pigment, ranging from bright white, to yellows, oranges, reds, greens, blue, purple and black. All from our Mother Earth.
Our Workshops begin on a Thursday evening with a welcoming dinner and end with a Farewell breakfast on Monday before you depart on the 11 am ferry.
Food, Food, and more Food!
Every workshop day, we start with a hot, hearty breakfast (with a Q&A), after which we start cobbing. Two morning, hands-on learning sessions sandwich a hearty snack break, A hot, hearty lunch (with another Q&A session) precede two afternoon sessions to make sure we have the strength and stamina to absorb all the learning we can. After an hour break to clean-up, a hot dinner accompanies a daily recap on lessons learned and sets the stage for an evening discussion among ourselves or with an invited guest from the Community.
Please visit our workshop page for all the details and to fill in our online application. Please note that there are only 5 spots left before it is sold out for 2023.
