The Fundamentals of Fast Cob

At a relaxed pace, we’ll learn and practice mixing and building with Fast Cob.  As the week progresses, you’ll gain the skills, confidence, and inspiration to build your own structures.

In 2018, a workshop of 4 people built a 12′ high by 8′ wide wall…and that was only half of what we accomplished.  Last year, a workshop of 6 built a 16′ x 12′ wood shed (6′ tall) and got the rafters on!

Every workshop day, we start with a hot, hearty breakfast (with a Q&A), after which we start cobbing.  Two morning, hands-on learning sessions sandwich a hearty snack break,  A hot, hearty lunch (with another Q&A session) precede two afternoon sessions, which sandwich an afternoon snack break to make sure we have the strength and stamina to absorb all the learning we can.  After cleaning ourselves up, a hot dinner accompanies a daily recap on lessons learned and often sets the stage for an evening discussion among ourselves or with an invited guest from the Community.

Every Fundamentals of Fast Cob Workshop includes:
Natural Building Design: working with nature to make long lasting, beautiful structures;
Fast Cob: how to mix it and build with it, incorporating windows and doors, electrical and plumbing;
Roofs: various options and simple, elegant designs;
Finishing: learn how to make and use two natural plasters that are safe to work with, and extremely durable.  You’ll also learn how to whitewash with natural lime.

In between hands-on Fast Cob sessions, we’ll look at foundations, electrical, plumbing, floors, roofs, and general design.  You get everything you need to go off and start building on your own because we design every workshop around you and your specific needs!

Sorry this workshop is full; you can apply to go on our wait list or watch our website (cob.lasqueti.ca) for our 2022 workshop schedule.
