SUMMARY:Community Cob & Balecob Build
DESCRIPTION:Community Cob & Balecob Build\nLocation: Near Lassen National Park\, California \nDate: Two weeks: May 18th-May 30th. Sunday\, May 24th is a rest day.  Come for as many or as few days as you’d like. \nCost: $25/day includes instruction\, space to camp\, and vegetarian meals. \nInstructor: Kyle Isacksen \nRegistration:  PayPal (registration button on web page) or checks accepted. \nAfter you register we’ll send you a follow-up email with more details and get the dates of your arrival and departure. \nPlease email Kyle if you have any questions. \nChecks to “Be the Change Project” 2055 McCloud Avenue\, Reno\, NV 89512 \nLimited to 10 participants/day. \nDaily Schedule: \n7:30 Breakfast \n8:15 Morning building session \n12:00 Lunch \n1:30 Discussion and Q & A \n2:00 Afternoon building session \n3:30 Snack \n5:00 End building session \n7:00 Dinner \nWe’re building a small cob and balecob cabin with a mother-daughter duo on their rustic homestead in the Sierra Nevada Foothills outside of Lassen National Park.  As a Community Build\, we’ll be focused on production with learning as opposed to a workshop where we focus primarily on teaching and skill development through building. This format keeps the cost low for participants while getting many helping hands on site for the build. \nInterspersed in each building session instructors will teach techniques and guide participants as the structure is built. \nIf you’ve been interested in learning about natural building\, have some experience and want to improve\, or maybe don’t have the time and money to dedicate to a full workshop\, this might be a good option for you. \nParticipants can register for as many of the 12 days as they’d like. \nConstruction Flow: \nEarthbag Stemwall (the rubble trench will be done prior to the build) \nTamped earth floor (first parts of an earthen floor) \nCobbing \nBalecob \nStraw-clay plaster \nBasic electric & plumbing \nWindows & Doors \n“Deadmen” supports for shelves \nNote: We will not be getting to the roof during this Community Build. \nFor more information about Balecob read Kyle and Conrad’s article in Mother Earth News magazine. For general natural building information\, buy Conrad’s book\, “House of Earth” in print or online.
