Clay Sand Soul invites you to come warm up and get muddy this winter at Montaña Manatí, a permaculture retreat center located minutes from Puerto Rico’s idyllic North Shore beaches.
In this 5-week Natural Building workshop, you will learn:
- How to analyze local Clay for making Cob and Plaster
- How to formulate Cob for load bearing wall construction
- How to sculpt, embed glass bottles, and insert windows and doors into Cob walls
- How to formulate warm interior clay plasters and protective exterior lime plasters
- How to attach a roof to a Cob Wall
- How to plan, design and build a Reciprocal Frame roof
- How to plan, design, and build a cheap Living Green Roof to insulate and beautify your Cob building
- How to formulate, pour, and finish a beautiful Earthen Floor
- How to calculate materials for your own Natural Building building project
- How to properly use tools like Drills and Saws
- How to trust your own hands and build intuition with earthen materials
- How to live in community for 5-weeks while creating functional art together and sharing each others struggles and successes!
Workshop tuition covers 5 weeks of hands-on building instruction, daily classroom lectures, 3 locally sourced healthful meals per weekday, and camping accommodations on Montaña Manatí’s beautiful land. There are rooms for rent on site if you would prefer that option.
