This hands-on workshop will teach you to create breathable, durable, and beautiful finishes using natural materials like clay, lime, sand, straw, and pigments. Whether you’re going for sleek and subtle or sculptural and expressive, you’ll learn how to apply functional, artistic plasters for cob, cordwood, or hybrid structures.

What we’ll cover:

• Mixing clay, sand, straw, and natural pigments

• Base coats, finish layers, and prepping different surfaces

• Burnishing, tooling, and adding texture

• Intro to lime plasters for weather resistance

• Sculpting, patching, and blending repairs

No prior experience needed – we’ll guide you from the trowel up!

This workshop is part of our Fall Earthbuilding Series at Talking Water Nature Retreat, a family-run gathering place on Suck Creek Mountain in Chattanooga, TN, where we’re building a bluff-top amphitheater using all natural and repurposed materials.
