Create Sacred Space- A Straw Bale roundhouse workshop
August 21, 2026 ∞ 5:00 pm - August 30, 2026 ∞ 5:00 pm
$1,100
We will be installing the Straw Bales for this conical roofed roundhouse , using the bales in their vertical orientation , known as BOEBS, which stands for Bales On End Between Studs. This is a fantastic technique where the Bales are oriented vertically within a light stud-framed wall, using the 15” narrow dimension of the bales as the wall thickness. This technique uses less bales, and has a lower building cost per square foot than bales laid flat, while still creating a wall system with great insulation.
We’ll be finishing out the bales with a site made cob plaster leveling coat and finish coat, and will explore cob bench building, bas-relief sculpture, altar and niche building, stone sill cutting , door and window framing and installation, conical roof design and carpentry. Also included are a natural building home tour , a Yuba River swimming trip, camping , 3 fresh meals a day and hot showers.
