Tool Lending Library Build – Earthen Floor Workshop

📅 April 25 | 8:00 AM – 3:00 PM
📍 Riverside-Corona Resource Conservation District (RCRCD), Riverside, California

Join us for a hands-on natural building day as we continue constructing the Tool Lending Library with the installation of its earthen floor.

This workshop will focus on preparing, mixing, and installing a durable earthen floor using clay, sand, and natural fibers. Participants will learn how to assess subfloor preparation, mix proper ratios for strength and longevity, and apply and finish an earthen surface that is both functional and beautiful.

Use the provided link to make a donation that fits your education budget. This will also be your registration. You will receive an email with further information and instructions.

Participants will:

• Prepare the base and subfloor
• Learn clay–sand ratio testing for earthen floors
• Mix and apply base and finish layers
• Understand drying, curing, and sealing methods
• Gain experience in low-cost, non-toxic flooring systems

Earthen floors are breathable, resilient, and made from abundant natural materials. This workshop offers practical skills for those interested in natural homes, small structures, studios, or retrofit projects.

No prior experience is necessary. All skill levels are welcome. Wear work clothes you don’t mind getting dusty or muddy, bring gloves, sun protection, and water.

Come ready to work with earth and community as we create a floor that will serve this shared resource for decades to come.
