    Hi there!

I am interested in learning about Cobb and natural building. I am based out of Northern California and am currently working at the Occidental Arts and Ecology Center, where we host retreats including permaculture design courses. A few of us are looking to buy property and in this endeavor, I am interested in building Cobb and natural structures. I am researching where I can begin to learn more about how to build in this sustainable and natural way. As a hands-on learner, I’d love to find folks who I can learn from and trade my labor in exchange for education and experience in these building techniques.

Thanks for your time and hope to hear back about possible opportunities to help out!

    Warmly,

    Katie

hello my name is andrew kellison, i have been studying these different building materials for the last few years, this is something that i have been trying to be apart of and learn these ways. i have been building skateparks professionally for the last few years full time and in my part time taking on other concrete and masonry jobs, i have a good amount of experience with concrete and various other muds, i havent had the place or time to experiment with these materials, and want to figure out how to get my foot in the door, i think this is something i would fall in love with in the other factors of how i feel about masonry/concrete work and want to expand my horizons from just concrete and mortar, ill offer work trade for housing and meals, i think i could be more help than the average new person just based off my previous work experience and knowledge i have now with buidling stratiges, this is how i want to build my home one day, i am hellbent on learning this way. thank you guys for your time and what you’re doing for this beautiful material.

Experience natural building, gardening, wildcrafting, green woodworking, rocket mass heaters, hugelkultur, earthworks and more.

Build your skills to the point that you can build your own shelter and create your own permaculture paradise. For people joining the bootcamp now, we are offering some additional incentives!

    Bootcamp Schedule:
    Five Days a Week:
7:00am – Everybody starts making breakfast.
7:50am – Everybody has eaten and cleaned up.
    8:00am – On the job.
    Noon – Everybody makes lunch.
12:50pm – Everybody has eaten and cleaned up.
    1:00pm – On the job.
5:00pm – Everybody starts making dinner.
7:00pm – Everybody has eaten and cleaned up.
    9:30pm – 6am: Quiet Time

That’s 40 hours per week working on projects. Most of this work is something interesting to people interested in Permaculture. Some of this work is simply chores that need to be done.

    Fiddly Details:
Food staples will be provided, although it is hoped that boots will eventually provide food for themselves and future boots by setting up garden systems.

Either party can end this relationship at any time.

The 40 hours per week is called “project labor”. All boots are expected to chip in to the cooking for the boots and cleaning up after the boots. Plus four to eight hours per week of “nest labor” that would include shoveling snow, deep cleaning, maintenance, garden harvesting … things of short term benefit to the boots. (planting a garden to feed people months into the future falls into “project labor”, harvesting from a garden to feed yourself and other boots in the next few days falls into “nest labor”).

      Thanks,

      Barona

    Hey there!

I’m seeking cob building volunteer opportunities near Kanab Utah. I’m willing to travel–a few hours isn’t a big deal, and I’ll go farther depending on accommodation opportunities. I’m also interested in earthbag, straw bale, and others. My primary goal is to get my hands in some cob!

I’m currently studying cob building via an online course and other resources. I have a lot of enthusiasm about natural building and am eager to learn and get my hands and feet in the mud.

As a farm hand I am used to manual labor–you can count on me to put in my all on your project. Let’s build something!

Hello all! I’m an artist in the Northeast, and I have a lovely 5 acre piece of property in Pine Hill New Mexico, and I will start building a small cob house and separate/adjacent art studio there in the spring of 2022 to relocate to permanently. Free camping and food provided — plus a wash area — there is no electric or utilities on the property. We will be living in our camper too while we are building, so it will be a community campsite while the project goes on. I have taken some courses in cob building, but I would love and welcome others who would like to come and start putting their skills into practice! If you will be in the area of northwestern New Mexico from April 2022 onward, we would love to work with you! You can contact me at hjeartist@gmail.com for more information, etc.

Hi Lesli, I am also interested. I am very close to you. I live in New Hampshire too. I would be willing to help out with a work/exchange party. I have no experience but have been looking into cobb building myself. If your able to set up a person with experience to build cobb I would be willing to come and help out. Message me and we can keep in touch. Heather

Hey there- Im interested in learning to build with cob, I’d like to exchange my time for education in the craft. I feel a calling to this work, a continual tugging on both my body and spirit. As a visual artist I’ve been detached from the physical side of expression for too long. Building has always been an interest since early childhood. I have some light construction experience. I’m a hard worker and unique thinker, I’m creative, honest and strong. Please contact me if there’s an opportunity in California. I’m in Los Angeles but I’m willing to travel a few hours to participate. Thank you. beck@beckstarr.com

Hi, I am a woman interested in sustainable living and natural building. I will offer labor, a strong work ethic, and a positive attitude in exchange for hands-on experience and education. I live in Santa Cruz, CA and am willing to drive up to 6 hours, give or take, to participate in building parties. Please reach out anytime you need help.

    Sincerely,
    Kelsey

I’m looking at properties in Connecticut and am hoping to start building with COB in the next year or two. Full disclosure, I have no experience, this will be a learning project for everyone. If you would like to be notified when we have a start date, please email silverfaewellness@gmail.com. Thanks!
